Olympus PEN E-PL7 | First Impression

Wednesday, 20 January 2016

I've wanted a professional camera for like 2 years now, but money has been the biggest issue as to why I never actually bought one. A few weeks before Christmas this year, I came to the conclusion that a professional camera would be pointless for me as I have no clue how to use cameras. Some people may think using cameras is easy, but it has never been my specialty. Just after Christmas, I decided to buy this beautiful Olympus PEN camera with the money I received for Christmas and OMG I do regret it one single bit, and here's why...

How It Looks

I'm sure most of you will agree that this camera is beautiful. The cream and white colours make the camera look so pretty, maybe even a bit sophisticated. I found taking pictures of this camera so fun, even though I had to take them with my phone. It has a leather look at the front and a tiny bit at the back. It's perfect for someone who wants a camera that looks like to carry around with them.

Photo Quality

As someone who is not a professional photographer, I'm not able to compare the picture quality to DSLR's etc. However, to me the picture quality is perfect. The tiniest things stand out and the pictures are so clear. If you play around with the settings, you can get incredible photo quality.

Ease of Use

To me, this camera is actually quite easy to use. Sure you have to play around with it slightly so you know your way around it (and of course I had to read about the different functions and what they mean). Overall, this camera is extremely easy to use. You can set it to AUTO so settings such as ISO and APERTURE change automatically, accordingly to the scene you are in. The only thing I can say right now is the manual only tells you pretty much how to set it up so you can use it, apart from that you have to look everything up online if you are clueless!

Functions

This camera has got a lot of features a DSLR does. You are able to change the ISO, APERTURE, change the brightness and shadows etc. and many more which I am yet to discover! The flipping screen is a brilliant idea as you can take great selfies, vlog and just take picture at any angle. The other amazing thing I find is the app you can download on your smartphone which works perfectly with the camera. This allows you to control the camera on your phone so you can take a group photo without having to use a timer. You can also very easily save pictures on your phone from the camera on the app which is so handy if you want to post an Instagram photo!

Overall

In conclusion, so far, I think this is a brilliant camera, for anyone who has no clue about cameras or for someone who knows cameras really well. Obviously, this is a first impressions post so I don't know all the in's and out's of this camera, I'm still learning! Right now, I would 100% recommend this camera and hopefully, once I play around with it more, I can write a more detailed post on this Olympus PEN!

I would love to hear from you so if you have any questions or anything else you'd want to add, leave a comment!
